Architect designed 'Nelson House'

This state of the art home on the upper slopes of Mt Nelson was designed by Crump Architects with a 'Commendation for a New House' in the 2017 Australian Institute of Architects Awards. Built around a central courtyard, creative use has been made of the available land to gain maximum sun and privacy, whilst incorporating the enticing views of the River Derwent.

A slatted timber entry and internal courtyard lead to the front door and foyer, where stairs rise to the main section of the house: the spacious living area with its warm polished floorboards the heart of the home. A well-designed kitchen with butler's pantry behind, plus a generous dining and sitting space, open onto a covered north-facing deck and river views. Floor to ceiling windows and sliding doors on the side of the living zone give access to a grassy courtyard around which the home is centred.
